How to set up and distribute your podcast/vidcast with the WorthBroadcasting Podcaster tool, part 3

So now you have your podcast set up, how do you access it and how do you go about distributing it?

Accessing your Podcast

In order to access your podcast, click on the "List My Channels" link on the left hand side navigation menu. You will now have access to a list of your podcast channels.

If you have entered a "slug" in the channel creation stage of this process, you will see two web addresses for each channel, otherwise you will just see one. Both will work absolutely fine, but the advantage of using a slug to create a user friendly URL is that you can personalise your podcast address and make it that little bit more user friendly.

The difference would be between a default address like "http://www.worthbroadcasting.org/podcaster/podcast.php?c=12" and a friendlier one like "http://www.worthbroadcasting.org/podcast/mynewpodcast.xml"

Announcing your Podcast

Your website

So, now you have an address you can direct people to to access the podcast. But inventing even the most amazing mousetrap is useless unless people know about it. Now we need to publicise the feed address. The first stage is to publish it on your own website, in a prominent place where people can find it and add it to the newsreader/aggregator of their choice. A simple link with an image such as the ones used on the List My Channels page will usually suffice, with the instructions to copy the link address and paste it into your visitors choice of newsreader/aggregator.

Directories

The next stage of publication is to place your newsfeed in any one of the podcast directories that are available. A search on Google for "podcast directory" yields over 27 million results so there is plenty of opportunity to promote your podcast. We obviously recommend that you...

Submit to WorthBroadcasting

If you have generated your feed with our Podcaster Tool, we suggest that you submit your podcast to iTunes before adding it to our directory. This is because you will then be able to include your iTunes FeedID as part of your submission. The advantage of doing this is that anyone who accesses your podcast by clicking on the iTunes link will drive your podcast higher up iTunes popularity ratings. You can then go to our submissions page and submit your podcast as normal.

iTunes

Submission to iTunes is a specific process, so assuming that you have enabled iTunes configuration in your podcast (and let's face it, there is no good reason not to), iTunes submission has its own section.
